Misdemeanor vs. Felony Theft Crimes

In the state of Maryland, potential penalties are punished according to the amount of the property that was taken. Therefore, anything equaling $1,000 or more can be charged as a felony offense.

Penalties for a felony theft conviction include:

  • Up to 10 years in prison and a fine of $10,000 for property values up to $10,000
  • Up to 15 years in prison and a $15,000 fine for property between $10,000 and $100,000
  • Up to 25 years and a $25,000 fine for property valued at more than $100,000

Misdemeanors, on the other hand, carry shorter prison sentences and smaller fines, but your freedom and your hard-earned money are still on the line. If you are found guilty without prior convictions on your record, you can face up to 18 months in prison. If, however, you have a prior record, you can face up to 5 years in prison, even for property valued at less than $1,000.

  • 2nd time Happy Customers!!!!

“We were really nervous about what my fiance was facing, with 13 violations. Mark gave us so much confidence in the possible outcome that the day of court, we could almost relax. Choosing to hire Mark was a nobrainer, and he got her off probation and free and clear. We will NEVER use another attorney, Mark will never let us down. If you're worried about the outcome in your case, Hire Mark!!!!”

  • Mark Is the BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!

“I was really sweating my ticket for 106 in a 55. Mark showed up, handled his business and got me a FULL ACQUITTAL. This man knows the law and forces the state to meet its burden of proof, like I've never seen before. Priced very fairly and you can't get better representation, believe me, I have tried. I have used a lot of attorneys but none took care of me like this man. I will never use another, that's for sure. Thanks Mark!!!!”

  • I felt very at ease with Mark representing me.

“I am very pleased with the way in which Mark handled my case. I had a speeding ticket which was 29 miles over the speed limit. Mark was very prompt in returning my telephone call and explained what would happen once we got into court and also gave me very valuable information while at court and prior to going to court. I ended up receiving probation before judgment. My fine was reduced from $160 to $50 + $25.50 in court costs. I felt very at ease with Mark representing me and will definitely use him in the future. My family also wants his name and number for any future situations they may come across.”
